Made

It's great being at home because you can watch freely loads of different channel on tv : I spent the last hour watching something quite laughable. It was on MTV, and the show is called Made.

"On every new episode of MADE, one willing candidate embarks on a mission to transform his or her life. Whether it's to become a football player or a BMX biker each teenager has a dream to break out of their shell and find out who they really are."

This time there was a girl who wanted to be a girly girl in order to get a date for the prom. She wanted her dreams to come true. But the problem is that she 's a real tomboy : wearing non feminine skate clothes and behaving like a guy... She was a nightmare for the MTV assistant, a Pamela-like woman, who decided to help her.

It wasn't really exciting to watch her working on her manners, her hair, learning how to put makeup, how to shave her legs, how to talk with boys : it was too predictable that the girl was going to be really cute.

So why the heck do I talk about that damn show, which seems to be such a piece of crap?

It was really interesting to have an insight of the american culture. Indeed, through Made I could catch glimpses of the behavior of the typical american student : finally, they are exactly the same as the image they give through their movies and series.

well, it seems stupid because ... why would they not be ?

Do you understand what it means? A consequence is that we, french students, don't fit with american system. Can you believe that in every school there are different social categories like the geeks, the pom pom girls, the football guys and so on... can you believe that your cool-itude depends on the group you belong to? Do you have to be seen as someone who belongs to a KIND of people, and hang out with people that look like you? ( take SNNE... it would have been impossible for me to meet them, too lyonnais!).

There are too much example to give, but the easiest way to get it is to watch again every teenage movie and to think in the same time that it's not far from the truth. Conversely, there are many movies (like Sex academy :-) ) who like to put in highlights the absurdity of these american customs : like everywhere, people aren't the same, they are all different, and it means that they are also a lot of american teenagers who just... don't care about all that. (but if you reject the system, you are put in the ' rebel group ', just below the ' skater group ' -joke-). It's true that, finally, the best thing to do is not to care about people!

When I was sixteen, I went abroad, to San Diego,California, during two months : the best holidays of my life. I spent two months speaking in english with everyone I could meet, I did a lot of things american teenagers likes do : going in a strip club, shooting with guns, going on a summer camp in order to meet other teenagers... Globally, I really liked it, when I came back in france I was completely americanized from head to toe but, as for the summer camp, I met some americans who treated me like an outcast because I smoked cigarettes. "Do you think you're cool with you're cigarette?"...

Finally, I still want to go back there, but only for holidays. I'm quite reluctant to go studying in Usa, especially these days, because I often fool around with terrorist clothes...
